> The Ohlenforst Restaurant |
 |
 |
|
For every taste,
there is a fitting dish to be found.
On Sundays and holidays we offer a separate menu with different small three-course menus (soup, main course, and dessert).
Seasonal specialties,
such as asparagus, fish, and venison are a matter of principle in this sandy and woodland-rich region along the Rur river. |
|
The restaurant seats up to 150 people. The space, however, can be subdivided if required. Larger companies, whether weddings, corporate parties, or receptions, can be catered to without any problems.
For smaller groups, up to 30 people, an extra room has been available since early 2004.
The owners will be happy to discuss with you the course of the event and the range of food and drinks.
For individuals and smaller groups there are always tables, either in the restaurant or in the smaller beer and wine tavern in the front part of the house. |

History of the Ohlenforst Restaurant |
|
 |
 |
The restaurant lies near the border to the Netherlands, between the cities of Aachen, Roermond, and Mönchengladbach, in the village of Effeld, known for its asparagus.
Since the end of the 18th Century, the house has been continuously managed by the Ohlenforst-Busch family.
It all began 200 years ago as a farm with a pub and a brewery.
The buildings gradually expanded, a dance hall was added, and soon it became the centre of the village. |
|
In the 1960s
In the last few decades, the restaurant has developed. Time and again, it has altered and improved in order to offer guests a comfortable atmosphere.
The Building
The building is built in the regional style, constructed with red bricks and adorned with granite door and window frames. Lovingly-tended flower arrangements glamorise the front of the house. Situated in a playful street, yet only a few metres from the main street, a large park lies on the opposite side.
The interior boasts a friendly, light atmosphere, without hiding the age of the building. The oak beams on the ceiling, as well as the pictures and antiques on the walls, recall the two centuries old history of the house and its surroundings.
The Ohlenforst Restaurant today is a house well-known and loved beyond the borders of the region.
