Poetic Walk
Combine your stay in our restaurant with a "poetic walk" through Effeld and the surrounding area.

In early November 2006, the hotels and restaurants of Effeld set up a 2.9 km long circular route, where you will find signs with poems and other texts on the village and the landscape at 13 stations.

A leaflet with a description, map, and further tips on excursions in the surrounding area can be found in our restaurant.
Enjoy yourself

In the Nature Park
A part of the town of Wassenberg, the asparagus village of Effeld lies in the southern part of the Maas-Schwalm-Nette natural park. This woody area is called the "Meinweg". On the Dutch side, this became a national park some years ago.

On both sides of the border, thick dense forests alternate with large heath surfaces. Beech and oak forests are found in the valley’s floodplains.

Along The River
Southwest of the village lies the Rur, a small river with its source in the Belgian Ardennes, and which ultimately flows into the Maas into the Netherlands.

A walk from the village across the fields to the Ruraltarmen is worthwhile.

Waldsee
Only 800 meters in the west lies the Waldsee, a former gravel quarry that has been turned into the swimming and fun area AMICI BEACH. Here, one can swim in the summer, take a ride on a wakeboard course, lie on the sandy shore, or relax in the shade on the grass amongst the foliage trees.

Around Lake Waldsee there is a walk of about 3 km, almost always along the shore and under shaded trees.

Natural Asparagus
In the asparagus season, the Ohlenforst Restaurant is not only an excellent place to dine, but if you feel like it, you can buy fresh asparagus in the village to take home with you.

Activities
In the district of Heinsberg and the neighbouring Netherlands there are well signposted hiking and cycling trails. Short walks within the village are also worthwhile. In Effeld there are some remarkable buildings. First and foremost is Effeld Castle, which is privately owned and can be viewed from the outside. Old, small houses from the previous century have partly been lovingly restored. It was no mistake that Effeld received a gold medal in the regional “Best Village” competition and bronze in the national competition.

Every year on Ascension Day the "Asparagus Festival" takes place in Effeld. A large artisan and flea market takes place in the streets, while a stage programme with musicians runs on the Martinusplatz from morning to night with free admission.
